in Memoria by Brigitte Clavette
Memoria is an award winning exhibition of metal works by Fredericton metalsmith Clavette.
The works in Memoria pay tribute to the artist's late partner Rick Séguin, through a series of sacred vessels that serve as memento mori, reminders of death. These exquisite works wrought from sterling silver, gold, precious gems and pearls illuminate the artist's experience with hope and loss through ritual objects associated with the Catholic Church. While these chalices and reliquaries emerge from the artist's French Catholic heritage, they combine personalized symbols as well as Buddhist imagery in their form.
Brigitte Clavette is currently the Head of the Metal Arts Studio at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. She has received the Kjeld and Erica Deichmann Award for Excellence in Craft and has been named the winner of the 2006 Strathbutler Award, a prize given to a New Brunswick visual artist or fine craftsperson who has contributed extensively to the New Brunswick Arts community.
This exhibition is on loan from the New Brunswick Museum.
