Field of Fire

Clark, Eastwood, Emenau, Gollse, and Levin

New Brunswick Woodfired Potters

Wood firing is a highly specialized means of producing ceramics. Time consuming, and costly it involves firing wood to temperatures up to 1300 ºC (2375 ºF) for days at a time. The ash from the wood melts to form the glaze on the pottery. It is this unique marriage of earth, wood, fire and accident that makes wood fired ceramics unique.

Artists Lee Horus Clark (Simonds, NB), David Eastwood (Hampstead, NB), Darren Emenau (Jones Creek, NB), Quercy Gollse (Fredericton, NB/Halifax, NS), and Ghita Levin (Baie Verte, New Brunswick) bring their individual and varied experience to this common format. The results range from subtle to stunning.
