Harmony Fire: Woodfired Ceramics
by Lee & Yolande Clark A
ndrew and Laura McCain Art Gallery
"Harmony Fire: Woodfired
Ceramics" is
the culmination of a year of whirlwind wood-firing and
art-making for this busy couple. The show will feature
functional and sculptural ceramics from the 27 foot long
"Little River Anagama" which the Clarks renovated and fired
twice over last summer, as well as work from their brand new
Bourrigama, a small and efficient wood kiln that the couple
recently designed and built in Knowlesville, NB, next to
their strawbale, solar-powered home.
Woodfiring kick-wheel thrown and hand-built forms, for the Clarks, is a spiritual calling and a passionate endeavour. Their firing method, unique in Canada, results in beautiful, one-of-a kind pieces--from the smallest cup to large four-foot tall vessels--with organic colours and textures that can only be achieved by the alchemical interaction between the clay, wood and fire.
Come and learn about this incredible process, or shop for a unique, hand-made, Christmas gift by these talented New Brunswick artists.
The show opens in two locations: at the Andrew & Laura McCain Gallery on Thursday, November 5th at 7pm, and at burnt.normal church pottery, 327 Main Street Florenceville, on the same evening at 8pm. The show will run from the 5th to the 21st of November. For more information, please see www.clarkwoodfire.com and www.burntnormal.blogspot.com.
