New Gallery Showcase Helps Solve Gift-giving Dilemmas

The Andrew and Laura McCain Art Gallery (ALMAG) has introduced a showcase for regional professional artists that could solve the “what can I get for…” gift quandary that many face at this time of year.

With new pieces being added to the collection regularly, the artists currently featured at ALMAG are Rachel MacDonald, Mike McEwing, Joss Richer, Donna Smallenberg, Colin Smith, Sam Smith and Roy Tibbits. Prices range from $20 to $1,000 and 20 percent of each sale supports Gallery operations.

“We have some outstanding, one-of-a-kind works of art in watercolour, serigraph, mixed media and oil,” remarked Victoria Hutt, the Gallery’s director and curator. “There are quite a few very tempting framed pieces at $200 or less and the average price is under $400. Any of them would make a great conversation starter especially when you can say that you have supported one of our own local artists.”

In addition, mixed media works from internationally recognized Fredericton artist Rita Sassani’s current ALMAG show, “Lost in Lines”, are also available for purchase. Her artwork − expressive in nature, characterized by intense colour and movement − is priced from $450. The exhibition continues through December 9.

The Andrew and Laura McCain Library and Art Gallery, at 8 McCain Street in Florenceville-Bristol, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm except Thursdays when the hours are noon until 8:00 pm.
